The goal is to complete the vaccine schemes against covid-19 and other conditions such as HPV (human papilloma virus) and respiratory diseases in children, pregnant women, adolescents and older adults. Vaccination against Covid is now available for children from 6 months of age.
This Saturday, July 29, is the central date of the Third National Vaccination Day of the year, promoted by the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and to which Coosalud EPS is linked to the available points of its allied IPS.
According to Jhoana Bonilla Esparza, a national epidemiology analyst at Coosalud, the objective of the day is to update users with pending doses of the Expanded Immunization Program (PAI), which includes free vaccination for children under 6 years of age, as well as for pregnant women and those over 60 years of age, who, according to the scheme, will receive biologicals such as BCG, polio, pentavalent, triple viral, yellow fever, chickenpox, and hepatitis A and B.
“In addition, aligned with the Ministry of Health, we continue to implement actions to guarantee access to biologicals for the population susceptible to influenza, girls from 9 to 17 years old, against HPV (human papillomavirus); women of childbearing age, from 10 to 49 years; and population susceptible to covid-19″, added Bonilla Esparza.
Likewise, the spokesperson stressed that, within the operational guidelines of the third day, vaccination against seasonal influenza strain south 2023 is sought, which will be applied to children under 26 months, older adults and populations that have some comorbidity such as cancer, organ transplants or HIV.
“We are also emphasizing completing schemes for covid-19,” added the official, while stressing that the biggest challenge is to create awareness among the affiliated population that getting vaccinated is the safest and most effective way to save lives.
“For this very reason,” Bonilla continued, “the motto of the day is #Vaccinating saves lives, because we understand that the only way out to protect ourselves from deadly diseases is vaccination. On this day we are working on completing vaccination schemes in children under 24 months with the pentavalent biological; 18-month-old children will complete their scheme with the triple viral, with its reinforcement; and in the high-risk population, the schemes for covid-19 and with the seasonal influenza vaccine for the peaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) will be completed.
The Coosalud epidemiology analyst emphasized that the pre-day has been taking place from July 1 to 28, with which it seeks to achieve 85% of the proposed vaccination goal. In the meantime, but on the central day of vaccination, Saturday July 29, it is planned to reach the remaining 15% of those vaccinated, with extended hours and the dynamics of each territory where Coosalud EPS is located.
For his part, Juan Manuel Anaya, director of the Coosalud Health Research and Innovation Center (CIISA), pointed out that vaccines are a priority that parents should have, since said biologicals are the greatest progress that medicine and the health sector have had worldwide.
“The Ministry of Health’s vaccination plan —he continued— is very complete, as well as free. For this reason, I urge parents, with prior information in their respective EPS, to vaccinate their children. Parents can also be vaccinated, if they have an incomplete vaccination scheme, for example, regarding the covid-19 vaccine, which is even already available in Colombia for the entire population after 6 months of birth.
