Car sharing is on the rise in Flanders: 2023 was a record year, which means that car sharing can now be found in 225 of the 300 municipalities.
Car sharing has experienced strong growth in Flanders in the past year. At the end of 2023, there were 4,159 shared cars, or a third more than the year before. De Zondag writes this based on Autodelen.net, which keeps track of the figures on behalf of the Flemish government.
According to the newspaper, the fact that 2023 was a record year for car sharing is evident from the fact that 48 Flemish cities and municipalities started car sharing during the year. For example, shared cars can now be found in 225 of the 300 municipalities.
It is also striking that in five years the number of electric shared cars has tripled to 647 at the end of last year. The number of Flemish people who participate in car sharing also increased in 2023. The shared cars have 38,347 active users, or 11 percent more than the previous year. (blg)
