The first concert will take place on November 7 in the “Bulgaria” Chamber Hall at 7:30 p.m.
Concerto Antico is the only Bulgarian ensemble for early music that performs on renowned European stages such as the long-standing festivals in Barcelona (Spain) and Utrecht (Netherlands). The activity of the consort is cited as an example of the growing interest in Eastern Europe in early music and, after an invitation, they perform a concert in the Fabolous Fringe series of the Festival Oude Muziek 2009 for the second time in a row. Their program for the concert on November 7 in the Chamber Hall “Bulgaria” from 19 :30 pm is entitled Orpheus Britannicus. It includes works by English composers of the 17th and 18th centuries, the most prominent representative of whom is Henry Purcell, called “the British Orpheus”. Works by Matthew Locke, Thomas Arndt, and George Frideric Handel – the German composer who worked in England for much of his life – will also be performed. The music world is celebrating two important anniversaries this year: the 350th anniversary of Purcell’s birth and the 250th anniversary of Handel’s death.
