The city awaits the arrival of biologicals to reinforce the schemes, initially in this population.
People over 70 years of age in Medellín will be summoned, as of October 1, to apply the third dose of the coronavirus vaccine, after the National Government announced the authorization for this process.
Mayor Daniel Quintero indicated that the third dose will be given to those who are this age and have received the first vaccine more than six months ago. “We have an important continent over 70 years old, who were the first to be vaccinated and to whom we are going to invite en masse”said the local president, who added that it begins with this population because they have the greatest vulnerability.
He also recalled that the National Government will receive 12 million doses this month, of Moderna, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Janssen vaccines, in order to reinforce the scheme. Quintero also highlighted that, according to the report on Thursday, September 16, there were no deaths from covid-19 in the capital of Antioquia, which led to the good results of the municipal vaccination plan.

Therefore, he reiterated the call to citizens who have not been vaccinated to do so, so that they can better protect themselves against the possible effects of the Delta variant.
The mayor also assured that, in the morning of this Friday, doses of AstraZeneca will arrive in the city, which he takes as good news given the shortage reported in recent days and that has generated almost a month of delay in the vaccination process in the city, which came as one of the most advanced in Colombia.
To date, with cut-off to September 16, 2,484,840 vaccines have been applied in the city, of which 1,399,930 are first doses, 883,501 second doses and 201,409 single doses. This means that there are 1,084,910 people with the complete scheme.
