Il Regional Council of Campania says yes to the possibility for the governor Vincenzo De Luca to apply for the third term. The vote in the Chamber was supported by compact majority (34 votes in favor out of 50) with the exception ofabstention by PD councilor Bruna Fiola. The votes opposite16, are from the opposition of centre-right and of 5 Star Movement.

In a note Igor TaruffiOrganization Manager in national secretariat of the Democratic Partybut he lets it be known: «We take note of the vote of the Campania Regional Council which in fact opens up the possibility of a third mandate for the current president of the Region. However, it must be clear that the vote expressed today does not shift the position of the national Democratic Party by a millimeter on the limit of two mandates for monocratic positions. Regardless of today’s vote, therefore, Vincenzo De Luca will not be the candidate for President supported by the Democratic Party in the next regional elections».
Antonio Iannone: «What will Schlein do?»
Antonio Iannone senator of Brothers of Italy and Regional Commissioner of the Party in Campania asks: «There is a PD in Rome and one in Naples. The vote in the Campania Region on De Luca’s third mandate certifies this. What will Schlein do now with the regional councilors of the Democratic Party who voted against the national line? They voted for a legal disgrace which also represents an infarction of political logic given that a third mandate would only be allowed to De Luca when Schlein publicly declared that regardless of the law the outgoing Governor will not be the candidate of the Democratic Party and the centre-left».
Edmondo Cirielli: «The government will challenge the law»

As a PD group we would have preferred the law to be approved later, but we are training for the majority’s resolution. 5 Star Movement: «Regional majority tramples on the rules»
The councilors of the have voted against the third mandate 5 Star Movement and in particular after the vote Michele Cammarano, Vincenzo Ciampi e Gennaro Saiello they stated: «Article 2 of the national framework law n.165/2004 obliges the Regions to provide that the President of the Region cannot be immediately re-elected upon expiry of the second consecutive mandate. Denying this self-applicable principle is effectively equivalent to maintaining that the regional legislator is free not to apply a clear indication of the national legislator. The regional majority has chosen to trample on the rules and go against common sense».
Marì Muscarà: “It’s a legal hoax”
The independent advisor Marì Muscarà underlined: «This is a legal hoax. There are no other words to define the recent transposition law approved by the Regional Council. A law already existing since 2009 was re-proposed with the sole intention of maintaining consolidated power in Campania, supported by 33 councilors who voted in favor of legislation on the ineligibility of regional councillors. Gianpiero Zinzi deputy of Lega and coordinator of the party in Campania stated: «De Luca voted for an ad personam law, a mandate without representation, leaving only rubble in what remained of a party more attentive to seats than to the interests of citizens. It is sad to have to admit that the accounts only come back to the regional council, but not in a region torn apart by the bad government of the last ten years which has relegated Campania to the bottom of all the rankings, starting from those concerning the main economic indicators. Whether Schlein likes it or not, this is not the change our citizens want».
