Third child dies in fire on Staten Island

A 5-year-old boy who was injured in a fire that killed two other children on Staten Island last month has died, authorities said.

Aiden Miles died on Dec. 28, five days after a fire engulfed a home on Van Duzer Street in Fox Hills, leaving him in critical condition, police said on Wednesday.

A 5-year-old girl, Ashley Miles, and a 6-year-old boy, Cera Miles, were pronounced dead the day the fire broke out, according to police.

The fire also left a 10-year-old boy in critical condition, according to police.

A 12-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were hospitalized for smoke inhalation but are expected to survive, authorities said last month.

Police did not say whether the three dead children were related, but the Staten Island Advance said the 5-year-old girl and the 6-year-old boy were siblings.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, the New York Fire Department said Wednesday.
