Bhopal: Another one of the cheetahs brought from South Africa has died. The cheetah, nicknamed Daksha, died in an encounter with other cheetahs in Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park. Daksha is a female cheetah. Daksha encountered male cheetahs like Vayu and Agni. This is the third time in three months that another cheetah has died.

For mating, Daksha was released into the area of male cheetahs like Vayu and Agni. However, Madhya Pradesh Chief Conservator of Forests JS Chauhan responded that Daksha might have been injured by male cheetahs. Emergency medical care was provided but the death was confirmed at 12 noon.

Earlier in March and April, the cheetahs named Sasha and Uday fell ill and died. Sasha died of kidney disease while Uday died of heart disease. Udaya’s death was confirmed during treatment. The Union Ministry of Environment had announced that three female and two male cheetahs will be released into the vast forest in June.

The Ministry of Environmental Affairs also announced that it will not prevent cheetahs from going out of the Kuno National Park. Cheetahs that go like this are brought back only if they feel there is danger. Out of the first batch of eight cheetahs brought from Namibia, four were released into the vast forest.

In September last year, the extinct cheetahs returned to the country. The cheetahs were brought to Gwalior in a special flight from Namibia. Then the cheetahs were brought to Kuno National Park in an army helicopter.

The second batch of cheetahs arrived in the country in February this year. 12 cheetahs reached the country in the second batch. The presence of cheetahs in the forest was finally confirmed in 1947. Then in 1952, cheetahs were officially declared extinct. Cheetahs are also the fastest land animals.
