Thionville’s Top Sports Clubs: Tennis, Fencing, Volleyball, GRS, Handball, and Soccer

Above, there is none, or little. These clubs and sports associations of Thionville evolve in the highest divisions, for a long time or with recent access.

Tennis (Pro A)

“We have two clubs. One competitive and leisure, the TC Guentrange (investment 1 M€) and the TCT, which has three clay courts, two hard outdoor courts and four indoor courts built two years ago. It’s at the national level, which should allow us to host a professional tournament (Challenger) in 2025, alternately with Esch-sur-Alzette. »

The TCT men’s team has just reached the highest level, the Pro A.

Fencing (N1)

Escrime Trois Frontières reached the highest level last season (N1) by teams, men and women, and has many sizes: Alice Conrad; Camille Keller and Jade Sersot, in particular, and the Belgian Neisser Loyola, 4th world swordsman. “There too, there was an emulation. That’s how we ended up organizing with Christophe Conrad, at the request of the club, the veteran European championship ”.

Volleyball

Thionville-Yutz had a very good season in N3 where the team had just risen, but the notion of excellence is in a rumor: a merger with Tfoc. “The president of agglo will always be a support for those who want to join forces. ASVB Thionville-Yutz can put a men’s team in N1, and in Terville-Florange, we are more in the women’s category (who play in the Women’s League A) : I will look at all the proposals with benevolence”. As for knowing if the file is progressing: “I absolutely do not take care of it! But I know that the ASVB is rather in favor of it, and Daniel (Mroczkowski, the president) told me that for him things are changing without there being a deadline. This would make this merger the biggest volleyball club in the Grand Est with Mulhouse”. But if there was a wish to see the club become community, with the merger on January 1, 2026 of Val-de-Fensch and Portes de France, “it would return to the large agglomeration”. The question of the room would remain: “Jean-Burger would only be an occasional option, he is not configured for that, but for GRS, climbing and schoolchildren. But we are thinking about the construction of a large hall by the Greater Conurbation, in the next seven or eight years”.

the GRS

The Thionville GRS Association is one of the biggest clubs in France in terms of numbers of members and plays at the highest levels: Performance and Elite. The club also provides athletes to the French team, some of whom could end up at the Paris-2024 Olympic Games.

Handball (N1)

The Thionville-Yutz club, men and women, is in N1, with two successive climbs by Philippe Ouchene’s players, “but the objective is the Proligue. We would like to restructure Jean-Pierre-Adams in 2026, in this sense”.

Soccer (N3)

Thionville Lusitanos plays at Guentrange: “We redid the lawn for €200,000, the locker rooms for €300,000 and we continue to regularly invest €100,000 a year to make the stadium compatible with National 2. The enclosure can accommodate currently 7,000 people. I would also like to build a synthetic in Volkrange and the Plain. »
