Thionville. Wild deposits 50 meters from the Veymerange waste disposal center: “An ignominy! »

The image leaves you speechless. An agent from Portes de France, in charge of the maintenance of waterways, discovered an illegal deposit… less than 100 m from the Veymerange waste disposal centre. “It’s absurd,” says Patricia Renaux indignantly. The vice-president of the agglomeration promises a firm response.

Televisions, washing machines, used tires, furniture, dryers, etc. The list is long and not exhaustive. These remains of inanimate material rested, until very recently, in what looks like a forbidden cemetery.

It was a technician from the Aquatic Environments Management and Flood Prevention Department (Gemapi) who discovered these illegal illegal dumps at the beginning of the month. The Portes de France agent had the task of removing a tree that was obstructing the flow of the Metzange, a tributary of the Veymerange stream.

“Every morning, our agents find deposits made outside opening hours”

At first glance, this scene, however desperate it may be, is part of a certain form of banality. On the territory of Portes de France as elsewhere, these misdeeds are multiplying at an increasing rate.

But in the present case, an aggravating circumstance dresses this damage to the environment: these voluntary abandonments were carried out less than a hundred meters from the community waste disposal center of Veymerange! “An ignominy is absurd”, loose Patricia Renaux.

The words of the vice-president of Portes de France, in particular in charge of the theme of waste, are strong and at the height of the offense. The elected official was already in despair at the daily ballet of abandonment of used equipment in front of the doors of the waste disposal centre: “Every morning, our agents find deposits, made outside opening hours, near the site. But there, we cross another course in the incivilities! »

It’s hard not to have a thought for this Gemapi agent. On his own, he cleared the bulky and cleaned the soiled area. The site has now been restored to its original state. Until the next spills?

Mobile cameras

“We are going to put the means to put an end to these actions”, promises Patricia Renaux. Recourse to the multi-municipal police could, in this case, prove beneficial. In addition to more regular patrols, the use of mobile cameras would make it possible to confuse the polluters of the site: “To characterize a wild deposit, liable to a fine of 1,500 € if it is carried out by car, it is necessary a flagrante delicto. So a registration number would be very useful to us. »

Offenders are notified. It remains to measure, over time, the dissuasive scope of the threat…
