Thionville vs Bordeaux Tennis Match: Benoit Paire Suspension, Match Results, and Player Performances

The Bordelais traveled to Thionville without Benoit Paire this Wednesday: he was suspended by the Federation for bad behavior. The Gironde team was, however, sufficiently complete to disrupt the Mosellans.

This was verified from the start of the game. Marlon Vankan was unable to compete with Mathias Bourgue who quickly won the first set then the second to offer a first point to the visitors.

The second meeting was of better quality. The Englishman Peniston controlled the start of the game (2-4), but Benjamin Hassan returned to contact to play the tie-break. Constantly lagging behind (1-4 then 4-6), the Thionvillois let the first set slip away. On the other hand, he dominated the second set (3-0 then 6-2) and the super tie-break would decide between the two players. After several ties (4-4 then 9-9), Hassan snatched the decision.

The third meeting did not allow Sébastian Fanselow to doubt the superiority of Calvin Hemery, winner in two short sets.

Shevchenko assure

On the other hand, the meeting between Alexander Shevchenko and Hugo Grenier would keep all its promises. In a high-flying game, the Bordeaux player broke from the start (2-4), but the Russian came back (6-6) before winning the set on a double fault from the Frenchman. In the second set, after a balanced start, Grenier weakened physically, no longer keeping pace with the precision of Shevchenko’s shots and the latter, monstrous at the end of the match, equalized.

Unfortunately, the doubles landed the coin on the wrong side. If the Nastasi/Hassan duo dominated the first set, the second was clearly in favor of the Bordelais who confirmed in the super tie-break (7-10). In the second match, the Vankan/Fanselow pair never managed to endanger the Bordeaux duo Hemery/Roger-Vasselin and it was logical that the Thionvillois suffered another defeat, almost synonymous with relegation to Pro B.
