Thionville. Travelers settle in with a farmer, the Portes de France-Thionville agglomeration powerless

About sixty caravans settled in a farmer’s field last Sunday in Yutz. These are not vacationers in the middle of a road trip but travelers who, finding the reception areas of Thionville and Yutz full, had the ingenious idea of setting up camp with others. And of course without permission. Since then, the farmer has not lost heart and it can be understood: the field is reserved for grazing cows until the fall.

The grass had been sown for this purpose; the animals were frightened when the nomads cut up the fence. It is their livelihood that a minority tramples on. This is both inadmissible and distressing banality. The worst is elsewhere, because to date, no one has the solution to accommodate these families when the available areas are full. And the legislative arsenal remains limited to signify a possible expulsion.

Deadlock

Thursday evening, at the Portes de France-Thionville agglomeration council, elected officials “simply” had to take note of the annual reports of the delegatee of the Yutz and Thionville reception areas, but this fresh news took over. All things considered, because it is indeed yet another finding of helplessness that has been made. In the case of the Yutz caravans, “there are not so many possibilities today”, admits Patrick Becker, the 8th vice-president in charge of the file.

Large families and large passages

Since the subject was launched, Pierre Cuny took the opportunity to bounce back on the large passage area, supposed to accommodate the transhumance of more than 300 caravans. In general, these are declared by travelers in the prefecture; in theory, the public authorities always find a solution off the cuff. But now, the legislator wants an identified and fully-fledged place. Community representatives have already caught themselves several times in the past. “Today, there are not thirty-six choices: there is room in Terville and at the entrance to Florange, but I don’t think that the mayors of these two communes, where there are plans to ‘urbanization, will agree … Thionville has made proposals for its part; including land near Verdine, but we have to deforest and there, the State is not favorable ”. The Gassion hypothesis? “There, it is Mr. Louis who will tell me that with the land he sells on the Europort, it is not compatible! In short, according to President Cuny, “it is insoluble but we will have to get out of it!” “

With her eyes still quite new on the subject, the first vice-president Clémence Pouget summed up: “I have the impression that nothing is progressing …” The farmer whose field is illegally occupied this week in Yutz will not say the opposite.
