Thionville. This summer, the Club Thionville Échecs opens its doors to you

While waiting for the resumption of classes at the start of the school year, on September 15, the Thionville chess club opens its doors this summer. Friday evening from 9 p.m. and Sunday morning from 9 a.m. to noon, chess enthusiasts, licensed or not, can meet to learn and play.

No tournament, the goal is above all to train. For the meeting place, it depends on the weather: at Wilson Park if the weather allows it or at the club, rue des Cygnes. “About fifteen people are present every half day”, explains Simon Roby, president of the club.

Revival of popularity

Among them, new faces and regulars, young people and adults, beginners and more experienced. “During the lockdown, a lot of people got into online chess, and with the success of the series The Lady’s Game , failures are a real success. Some people come to the club with a good, even a very good level, ”says Simon Roby.

Despite this popularity, many people still do not dare to walk through the door of a chess club, observes the president. He assures him: “We must not hesitate to come! “Throughout the year, the club welcomes 80 licensees, half of whom are adults and the other half are children. From September, adult lessons will resume on Friday evening and Sunday morning. For children, lessons are scheduled on Wednesday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Notice to amateurs!
