Thionville. Third wave of vaccination at Le Kem hospital

In November and December, Le Kem geriatric hospital (SOS Group) had to deal with two clusters which led it to react quickly to stop the Covid-19 pandemic within its walls. Two months later, the climate is much more serene, and the establishment run by Philippe Bello is crossing its fingers to no longer experience such an experience.

He now counts, under surveillance, thirteen Covid patients, including two English variants and a South African variant. The 75 residents present to date in the accommodation centers (Reinforced Reinforcement Unit, Alzheimer’s and USLG geriatric units) are not sick with the coronavirus. “We started their vaccination at the beginning of January,” recalls the director. These people being very dependent, it was difficult for us to ask for their consent. So we got closer to families and we had 83% positive responses. “

Forty-five residents were thus vaccinated, including forty-two with two injections. Seventeen more should be on the occasion of a third wave of vaccination which will begin this first week of March.

A precise organization

“I am fully satisfied because we have no problem with the delivery of doses of Pfizer,” says Philippe Bello. The organization with the Regional Health Agency and the CHR Metz-Thionville works very well. This organization is precise, but the involvement of our doctors and caregivers, under the guidance of Dr Christelle Diesel, allows us not to have to go to the vaccination centers. “

On the employee side, it is a little more difficult to reach out. Of the 230 employees, 125 opted for vaccination (54%). Only 24 people have yet to receive their first injection. It will soon be the case. “We all can’t wait to see the end of the tunnel,” concludes the manager. Health professionals are suffering. They are physically and mentally exhausted. “

With its 200 beds and places, half of which is dedicated to geriatrics (medicine, follow-up care and long-term care unit), Le Kem would like to return to normal activity, without the Covid, and quickly carry out its various projects. .
