After two difficult years punctuated by cancellations, how did 2022 go for the Thionville Municipal Sports Office?
Aldo GIULIANO, president : “The year was positive, we were able to restart the machine. The 25th half of Thionville was postponed in the calendar, but we recorded 1,600 registrations, while other races were out of breath. Our Summer Sport Tickets were well attended with the participation of 650 young people. In June, we organized, with the 40th Regiment, the first Liberty color run. Despite the gray weather, 1,200 people took the start. Let’s not forget the futsal tournament which, although reduced, saw nearly 500 children enjoy it. 2022 was rich in events, between our forum of associations and our participation in Thionvilloise. At Christmas, the WHO was also part of the enchanted bubble and the flying chairs. Seventeen associations followed one another. »
Do you plan to repeat these events in 2023?
” Yes. We got the ball rolling with the Mérite sportif dedicated to volunteers, because without them, the associations wouldn’t exist. Moreover, we are launching a call for volunteers to lend us a hand during our half-marathon, scheduled for April 23. The route has been slightly modified and the start of the 21 km will be given at 9 a.m. The 2nd Liberty Color run is announced on Sunday May 14. As for our Sports Tickets, they will delight children this summer. We maintain all of our events, such as the forum of associations which will take place on September 2. At the same time, we are working on new products that will see the light of day in 2024.”
What is WHO for?
“We have been around since 1979. We are a showcase for the city’s sports clubs. We welcome the public, we communicate about the associations and we regularly update the brochure, like our website , which is consulted by 6,000 Internet users each year. We federate 82 associations and we energize Thionville by proposing actions. Currently, it’s the semi that takes up all our time. »
