Playing basketball while in a wheelchair or table tennis blindfolded is far from child’s play. As part of its disability mission, the CCAS de Thionville organizes awareness-raising actions for CM2 students every year. Sixteen classes volunteered. Since Monday and until Friday June 3, at the Milliaire gymnasium, in groups, young people follow workshops in the company of volunteers from the Federation of the Blind of Alsace-Lorraine, Thionville Handisport, AFM Téléthon, APEI Moselle, the table tennis club of Thionville as well as the Apeda Moselle and Dyslexiques de France. “The Thionville Portes de France Lions Club is also our partner because it finances transport,” says Grégory Maglott of the Disability Mission. This action was launched in 2016.

80% of disabilities are invisible
“Our goal is to raise awareness about disability. We try to break certain clichés but also to answer questions in order to facilitate the integration of different children. You should know that 80% of disabilities are invisible like autism or Dys, we also take the opportunity to talk to them about genetic diseases. Six workshops are scheduled throughout the day. “By putting the students in a situation, we allow them to put their feelings into words. They meet people with disabilities like Delphine, Odile and Anita and dare to talk with them. “Upstream in class, work has been done. “They are also going to imagine a work around the theme of the Paralympic Games which will be to be discovered during the Téléthon in Thionville. You should know that the disability mission offers various actions throughout the year in schools such as high schools but also during events because it is important to change the way we look at difference, whether we are 10 years old or more. »
