A day to celebrate sport and encourage practice: this is the objective of the Moselle Terre de Jeux caravan, which has been crisscrossing the department since mid-July. After passing through Amnéville, Bitche, Creutzwald or even Sarrebourg, it will be in Thionville this Wednesday, August 4. The meeting is given on the banks of the Moselle, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. then from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The timing is perfect since at this very moment the cream of the sportsmen of the whole world take part in the Olympic Games of Tokyo and perhaps awakens desires of sport among the young people… This Wednesday therefore, on the thionville docks, activities will be proposed to the children of all ages. The day will be punctuated by initiations in different disciplines, challenges and civic games.

“Promote our associations”
The Moselle Land of Games caravan , at the initiative of the Department and within the framework of the upcoming 2024 Paris Games, wants to promote local players in the sports world and mobilize youth. “The idea for us is also to promote our associations”, breathes Charles Heine, responsible for Youth in the City.
On site, around ten local clubs will offer initiations: basketball, climbing, disabled sports, rugby, football, fencing, handball, kayaking and skateboarding. Children will be able to test different disciplines. “The workshops are open access. The only obligation: the presentation of the health pass for adults accompanying children, ”adds Charles Heine.

Exchanges with athletes
High-level athletes will also be present on the site: the young disabled swimmer from Thionville Theo Feipel and the disabled table tennis player Alan Papirer, from Moulins-lès-Metz have confirmed their attendance. Children will be able to interact with them during the day. The opportunity to arouse their curiosity and learn more about the world of disabled sports. This day will perhaps also be an opportunity to create vocations among young people and to relaunch local sporting life, which has slowed down considerably for a year and a half.
