A compulsory and unchanging exercise, the start of the new school year is nonetheless a real highlight in Thionville.

Slight drop in staff

Nearly 3,400 schoolchildren will return to or discover their classes on Monday 4 September. A workforce in slight decline, of the order of a hundred children.

The consequence is felt in the kindergarten of the Petite Saison which loses a post as well as in the elementary school Victor-Hugo. Conversely, there are five allocations to the elementary school of Poppies and Guentrange; in kindergarten Desnos and Gérard-Clément. The Jacques-Prévert school will host a UP2A system for newcomer and non-native children.

Work review

“€630,000 of work was undertaken this summer in the schools”, recalls the Deputy for Education, Emmanuel Bertin. Among the most emblematic are the Semailles insulation; refurbishment of rooms at Robert-Desnos; securing the exit from the Trois Villages school in Volkrange.

The creation of a room on the ground floor of the Côte des Roses school alone drew in €150,000. A necessity to adapt the premises to people with reduced mobility.

“We are continuing this disability adaptation program”, insists Emmanuel Bertin, aware that there is still work to be done at this level even if “things are progressing”.

Digital plan

This summer, ten new digital boards were installed. The teachers opted for a standing board (therefore movable) with folding flaps in a white surface for writing.

“Our goal was to staff all schools by the end of the mandate. It will be achieved since 85% of classes are now equipped. Simply, we will already have to replace the first generation tables which are now outdated, ”indicates the elected official.

An Olympic year

The schools of the city will get in working order to support the event of the century: the Paris 2024 Olympics. A major operation is in the cards, throughout the year and we know that a large gathering is scheduled for June 24th. City councilor Anita Fatis is in charge.
