This meeting was the poster child for the fourth round of the Coupe de France in Moselle. Boulay, 12th in R1, was not the favorite against Thionville-Lusitanos, undefeated leader of N3. Without being impressive, the Thionville-Lusitanos team enforced the hierarchy by winning on the excellent pitch of CA Boulay.
This terrain favored the most technical training. The Thionvillois made short passes at ground level and hampered the Boulage defenders, who were uncomfortable facing an opponent constantly using the width of the field. The Boulageois initially played very low, leaving the only Hadji too alone in front, always opposed to two defenders. On a cross from the left, by Burger, Baradji missed the ball, Groune, in ambush and completely unmarked at the far post, took the opportunity to open the score (0-1, 19th). The break came on this slight advantage for the visitors.
Boulay was more present in the second half, attempting more attacks. Unfortunately for the local clan, a bad return fell on Thionvillos Habbas, sending a missile from twenty meters into Gilardo’s top corner (0-2, 78th). On a new cross from Thionville by Jacquel, Groune made his double (0-3, 86th). For the honor, Zeimet sent a lofted cross shot into Zimmermann’s net (1-3, 89th). This final score logically qualified the Thionvillois, who deserved it while respecting their evening opponent.
Frank Weber, Boulay coach, was lucid: “We had a better second half than the first. My guys stuck to the game plan. I’m proud of them, they did well. This will help us for the championship.” Julien François, coach of Thionville-Lusitanos, also praised his men: “It was a serious match on our part. We did the job and respected our opponent. Even if I regret the goal conceded, I am generally satisfied with our performance.”
