Thionville: hunters judged because they gave too many shooting instructions

Dura lex, sed lex will say some, others on the other hand will cry scandal …

Thursday, September 23, a dozen apartment hunters from a Moselle hunting company appeared in the Thionville court for a case dating back to 2017.

This case concerns the non-respect of the departmental hunting management plan set at the time. To cope with the damage caused by the already numerous wild boars at the time, this scheme provided that no more shooting instructions should be given on the wild boars, except for the shooting of the leading sows.

However, this small hunting company gave instructions to preserve the sows above 45kg. In this region, wild boar hunting is almost a religion, and it is in the departments of eastern France that we saw, at the time, almonds when we pulled sows in particular. But now, the wild boar populations are not what they were 20 years ago, and today the hunters’ federation, which has taken civil action in this case, is struggling to pay for the damage caused by large game.

The ten hunters tried to explain to the court that they were acting out of habit, and in the interest of the game, but the public prosecutor, through the voice of his representative, seems not to have been sensitive to this line of defense: “” You have been outlawed, illegally, custom does not make the law. »» She launches.

The deliberation must be delivered on November 25, 2021. The prosecution requested fines ranging from € 300 to € 38. For its part, the federation of hunters is claiming damages of € 150 from each hunter.
