Happy year or not, 2021 has mostly been rainy. Just look at the rainfall: at the end of October, the statistics already showed 768 liters of water per m², which had fallen since the start of the year, compared to 568 liters per m² in 2020 at the same period. It also rained every other day in September… Even the most fervent Lorrainer will find it difficult to dispute this assessment.
Admittedly, the last few months have been much less wet: for example, there was half as much rain in December 2021 as in December 2020. However, this has not reversed the general trend.
In Sierck-les-Bains, on the roof of our expert Denis Hourt, owner of a weather station, the meters recorded 888 liters of rain per square meter in 2021 against 705 liters in 2020.

Summer temperature
Mid-July, the weather station of our inhabitant of Sierck-les-Bains announced 15 degrees for the worst day. Well, it was almost as hot the last week of December, with an exceptional 14.4 degrees, in the shade!
Another impressive disparity, not to say worrying: on November 2, 2020, the thermometer climbed to 22.2 degrees. In 2021, the hottest day of that same month did not exceed 12.9 degrees.

The sun is working overtime
Spring 2021 was particularly rotten. Autumn has (modestly) caught up with the situation. The figures confirm it: October 2021 is twice as sunny as the previous year, with 98 hours of light.
September 2021 also stores 40 additional hours of sunshine (with 155 hours in total). December was also better: milder and above all sunnier, even if the rays are low in this season. A boon for the return of Christmas markets, despite a restrictive health context.
All combined, in Sierck-les-Bains and the surrounding area, the sun showed 1,356 hours in 2021. Against 1,280 hours in 2020.

And nature in all this?
“Nature was starting again,” notes Denis Hourt, owner of the resort. This nature lover notably observed buds on hazel trees. “The sap in the vines has not gone down,” he continues.
Since early January, temperatures have dropped and will likely freeze this early recovery. To know the consequences, the winter weather will be decisive.
