Thionville Conservatory: A Prestigious Music School with 730 Students and Innovative Programs

The Thionville conservatory will return to school on September 11. The structure, nestled in the prestigious Adagio concert hall, already has 700 students registered. At the helm, director Pierre Trimbur unveils the score which will be performed by his teams.

Imposing, prestigious, full of character: the same building, located in the city center, houses the music conservatory and the Adagio. The two entities, complementary, lead a harmonious shared life: “It’s a chance to benefit from this scene. It hosts auditions for our students, more than a hundred per year,” notes director Pierre Trimbur.

730 students, 40 teachers

Perched in his office on the top floor, this violin teacher is orchestrating his fifth return to school. Documents pile up on his desk: registration forms, timetable, theater season program, etc. Between now and the start of the school year, scheduled for Monday September 11, it must set the tone for a year 2023-2024 placed under the sign of continuity: “We already have 700 registered. This will certainly continue to grow to reach, like last year, 730 students. »Status quo also regarding the number of teachers: there will still be around forty on deck this Monday. An air of déjà vu therefore escorts this musical awakening. But the conservatory cannot be reduced to this conservative management of its staff. This year, the establishment will innovate.

Experiments

Proof of its appetite for novelty and determined to stay with the times, the conservatory is opening training dedicated to computer-assisted music (MAO). The classes will take place in Puzzle’s digital studio: “We launched a few discovery classes and the feedback was very good. »

This experiment reflects a strong desire to open up to new horizons. And to break the falsely elitist character that weighs on any conservatory: “We welcome everyone from the age of 5,” insists the director. Yes, all audiences…

Young people from the neighborhoods

This year, a dozen young musicians from the Musical Education System with an orchestral and social vocation (Demos) will join the premises. Social is the term to remember from this hardly melodious acronym. For three years, young people from all over France, from working-class neighborhoods, have been familiarizing themselves with music in social centers.

In Thionville, this operation, led by the Philharmonie de Paris, targeted the Maison de Quartiers and the Prévert center: “Our teachers got involved and quite naturally, we set up a bridge system to accommodate, within our walls, a first promotion. » The initiative fits well with the image sent by the structure. Practicing one of the lowest pricing policies in the region, the Thionville conservatory acts in the field of solidarity: “We plan interventions in nursing homes and we have a disability representative. We are in the human, the search for sharing. » A speech without a false note.
