His professional background
Coming from transmissions “the weapon which unites arms”, Colonel Kaufmann arrives from the General Staff of the Armies where he occupied a post in cyber defense, with an additional specialty in the marine troops. Then captain, he spent two years in New Caledonia, but also four years with the 53rd Signal Regiment of Lunéville. Projected in Afghanistan, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Chad, he also commanded a company in Tahiti. Today he won “the most beautiful position in the army”, that of boss of a regiment of 800 men and women whose motto is: “Who looks at me bows”

His missions at the head of the 40th
In addition to commanding the regiment and managing human resources, which represents the bulk of the work, Colonel Kaufmann has to overcome several challenges. First of all, that of adaptation to high intensity combat. “I have to prepare the regiment for tougher engagements. This requires education and training, ”he explains. Then, the 40th RT will continue its modernization to meet the evolution of high-tech equipment and the requirements of collaborative combat. Wounded, like many others, by the pandemic, the 40th RT will relaunch its activities of cohesion essential to the esprit de corps. “For this, everyone will be vaccinated at the end of the summer,” says Colonel Kaufmann.

Its commitment to external operations
The regiment is regularly deployed to all theaters. During his command, Colonel Kaufmann will take the 40th to Africa as part of Operation Barkhane. A company will also go to train in Polynesia.
