Monday morning, 9.45am: A man unloads his car. He leaves for a few seconds, just long enough to have his briefcase and digital tablet in the vehicle stolen. A neighbor saw the thief. He immediately alerted the victim. The police are also informed.
The neighbor recognizes the alleged theft in a van. The man was arrested by the authorities at the end of the morning. In his deposition, the witness describes a man of the European type, between 40 and 50 years old, pepper and salt beard, jeans, black jacket, covid mask on the nose, about 1m75. “I am 1m87”, specifies the interested party, presented on Tuesday before the criminal court of Thionville. He also assures himself that he is not wearing a black jacket. Otherwise, the rather common description seems to fit perfectly. “I have nothing to do with this case,” he says.
Taken into custody
Except that the stolen tablet was in rue Saint-Hubert in Thionville where he lives and that his locker has seventeen mentions, most of them for theft. Although a search of his apartment turns up nothing, the electronic bracelet he wears on his ankle from his last conviction indicates that he had left his home at the time of the burglary. “I went out to buy cigarettes,” she replies.
His lawyer is asking for his release with the benefit of the doubt. Point out the weaknesses of the file. But the court finds that the evidence is sufficient and sentences the 47-year-old accused to six months in prison. He was taken into custody as soon as the sentence was passed.
