Thionville. A first major citizen cleansing throughout the city this Sunday

The City of Thionville remains very attentive to its cleanliness. “A constant struggle,” underlines Patricia Renaux, deputy mayor for ecological transition and Living environment. For the first time, the municipality is organizing a Great citizen cleaning operation this Sunday July 4 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout the city.

And this in partnership with associations from Thionville (Les pieds sur terre, Amis de la nature France, Association protection environnement Guentrange, Club Vosgien Thionville, Center le lierre, ASVB Yutz-Thionville, Les jardins se create, Club motonautique de Thionville, Clean your city).

Nine zones

Residents of all ages are invited to participate in this great ecological action to collect waste, cigarette ends and other illegal deposits littering the public road. The system extends over several districts of the town, crisscrossed into nine zones.

The municipality asks participants to register quickly and choose their collection sector, “but latecomers or non-registrants will of course be welcome. We must be as many as possible ”. By the way, this is the opportunity to discover other sectors of Thionville during a family or friendly stroll.

“Be visible to get this prevention message across”

This major citizen cleanup is reminiscent of the various municipal refuse collection operations that have already taken place in the past, such as the Cleanwalker walk in Thionville last May. These citizen actions are multiplying, no longer only in nature or in the forest, but also in the city. “The idea of doing it in urban areas is for these collectors, with safety vests, to be sighted in order to get this prevention message across”, explains the assistant. “We must put an end to this incivility, these cigarette ends, these wild deposits that pollute our living environment. “

For example, in Thionville, these bulky items placed illegally on the public domain represent “70 tonnes per year” to be removed by the agents. A considerable workload which “prevents our municipal employees from ensuring fine maintenance of the roads”. Patricia Renaux nevertheless recalls that many garbage cans, bags for dog droppings and now educational ashtrays are scattered throughout the city.

Comfort the fourth flower

“The ambition is to have a clean city. We cannot fully admire our magnificent flower beds if there is still rubbish all around, ”adds the deputy who wishes to consolidate the fourth flower in the locality.

For Sunday, participants are asked to bring collecting gloves, a chasuble (yellow vest), a mask, a bottle of water and good shoes. Even plastic bottles to collect cigarette butts. The bags of collected waste will be weighed at the end of the operation.
