For Manuela and the twenty-four other students, this return to class has a special flavor. “I worked in a pharmacy in Luxembourg but for a long time I had wanted to help others. I was made aware of the profession of caregiver by my grandmother who is visually impaired. I wanted to acquire skills and help other seniors. At 28 years old, this mother of two children has crossed the threshold and made her comeback on the benches of the IUT of Thionville-Yutz.

Eighteen months alternately
“This is an apprenticeship contract,” explains Katia Jung, director of the Saint-Avold nursing assistant training institute, responsible for training. This project was born from an observation, in the sector the demand for personnel was strong. This is why the SOS Santé et Seniors Group has devised an eighteen-month training course, between theory and practice, punctuated by numerous internships and ultimately a diploma and a job. “
Among the 25 students, many are retraining, some were unemployed. “They are between 20 and 45 years old and live in the area of Metz and Thionville. We had sixty candidates, we made our choice according to their motivation. They began in December with an operational preparation for individual employment, today they get to the heart of the matter. Manuela can’t wait to get her diploma. “It’s going to be a bit long, there will undoubtedly be ups and downs, but what a great opportunity. “
