China is rolling out the welcome mat for international travelers,experiencing a surge in inbound tourism fueled by a series of new facilitation measures. Starting December 1,2023,visitors from France,Germany,Italy,the Netherlands,Spain,and Malaysia can enter China visa-free for up to 15 days for business,tourism,family visits,or transit.
“China has introduced a series of facilitation policies and measures for foreigners to come to China for work,study,or travel,” the report states.
This policy expansion builds on previous measures,with 38 countries now enjoying unilateral visa-free access to China.The maximum stay for visitors has also been extended to 30 days as of November 30.
The results are evident. In the frist half of 2024, 14.64 million foreigners entered China, a staggering 152.7 percent increase year-on-year. Of these, approximately 8.54 million entered visa-free, marking a 190.1 percent year-on-year surge.
The report was unveiled at the Xinhua CEIS Think Tank annual Conference 2024 in Boao, Hainan province.CEIS, short for China Economic Information Service, is a leading provider of economic information and services under Xinhua.
