Things to Do on Republic Day Long Weekend in Pisa and its Province: Events and Activities

A long weekend just around the corner. In fact, June 2, Republic Day, will fall on a Friday, allowing us to take advantage of three days of relaxation. Let’s see some suggestions on how to spend the weekend between Pisa and its province (here, instead, some ideas for a trip out of town).

Quality street food but also music, all just a stone’s throw from the sea. These are the ingredients of the four days of events organized in Piazza Sardegna in Marina di Pisa from 1 to 4 June thanks to ‘Food Festival’ and Confesercenti.

On Friday 2 June, on the occasion of the Republic Day, the Pisa Aeroclub organized an interesting and significant series of events at the Valdera airfield, in the municipality of Capannoli, which will begin at 9.30 to celebrate this important anniversary. The program includes a band concert in which the national anthem will be performed with the subsequent flag-raising. Following some men belonging to the paratroopers of the Carabinieri will carry out parachute jumps carrying the tricolor flag in flight. If the weather conditions allow it, it will be possible to make restricted flights on a hot air balloon.

On Saturday 3 June, from 11 to 18 at the Hotel Galilei, the exhibition ‘Real Human Bodies – An exhibition of real human bodies’ will be held. On this occasion it will be possible to observe a large scientific collection of valuable anatomical exhibits from a didactic point of view, made up of human bodies, skeletons, limbs, organs, organ blocks, functional simulators, tactile models and castings of forms, transmitted medical knowledge to visitors interested in the topic. A special topic is cancer: In addition, various cancer types and cancer exhibition pieces are displayed and explained.

Sunday 4 June, at 21 in the Church of Santo Stefano dei Cavalieri, the Vincenzo Galilei choir directed by Gabriele Micheli will perform some liturgical songs by William Byrd, composer and organist who lived in England between the sixteenth and sixteenth centuries. This is the last appointment, one of the most suggestive, of the concert series of the Scuola Normale Superiore 2022-2023, directed by maestro Carlo Boccadoro.

From 2 to 4 June appointment in Lari with the Cherry Festival, now in its 65th edition and characterized by an explosion of shades of red in every corner of the village. On this occasion, alongside the traditional cherry market, there will be a market of typical products, but not only: Stefano and Tommaso Bernardeschi’s show cooking “I Fornai di Lari” is also scheduled, music, entertainment for children, exhibitions, Showcase Tuscany exhibition and much more.

Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 June, from 9 to 19, the emotional garden of the Sentieri di Piume of the La Gualda Vecchia farm in Monterverdi Marittimo will open its doors to everyone for the first time free of charge. A place in which to get lost, to find yourself, perhaps after a day discovering the many riches that the area offers, a few kilometers from the villages of Castagneto Carducci and Sassetta.

Friday 2nd and Saturday 3rd June, in the space of the Parterre of San Giuliano Terme, recovered and used as a place for events and opportunities for socializing, an appointment with ‘Bagni di Vino’. On this occasion it will be possible to taste some of the best wines of the Pisan area.

The small antiques and handicrafts market in the historic center of San Miniato is back on Sunday 4 June, organized by the San Miniato Promotion Foundation with the collaboration of the municipal body. From 9 to 19 it will be possible to find antiques, vintage, used and small handicraft objects at the monthly appointment in the historic centre; between furniture, decoupage, objects, collectibles, curiosities, works of genius, there will be something for all tastes and for all passions.
