In the past few months there have been numerous rumors surrounding Lionel Messi’s sporting future. President Joan Laporta recently made it clear that he will do everything possible to convince the 33-year-old to stay with FC Barcelona. According to recent media reports, the Catalans have now made the first contract offer to Messi.
Messi’s contract expires at the end of the season, so the offensive player could leave the club for free. The Barca star has recently been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain. The Blaugrana, however, hopes to stay, especially President Joan Laporta. As the radio station “RAC1” reports, Laporta Messi has now submitted the first concrete contract offer.
Barca rely on a flexible salary model

Even if no details such as term and salary are known to date, “RAC1” has revealed initial information on the framework conditions. Accordingly, Barca Messi is initially offering a lower salary. However, payments would increase in the future once the club’s financial situation stabilizes again.
As a reminder, the contents of the ongoing Messi deal were leaked earlier this year. Accordingly, the Argentine currently earns around 140 million euros per season. Due to the enormous debt burden (around 1 billion euros), Barca simply cannot afford such a salary at the moment. It will be exciting to see whether Messi will get involved in a variable salary.
