Conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, negatively impact a person’s ability to maintain weight. This condition also limits the type and amount of food a person consumes. Inflammation of the intestines can also cause frequent diarrhea which results in weight loss in some cases.
Eating disorders
There are many types of eating disorders. One of them is deliberately limiting food intake so that it is difficult to maintain weight. Anorexia nervosa, for example, causes extreme weight loss and an inability to gain maximum weight. People with bulimia can make it difficult for a person to maintain enough calories to maintain weight.
Medicines and treatments
Certain medications and treatments that cause loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea can make it difficult for you to maintain weight. For example, antibiotics and chemotherapy drugs, are generally known to cause gastric side effects. Generally, people who use this treatment lose weight and find it difficult to gain weight during treatment.
Mental illness
The Medical News Today page writes, poor mental health can affect a person’s ability to gain and maintain weight. For example, depression, anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and eating disorders, such as anorexia and bulimia. Each of these conditions can affect a person’s body image and appetite.
