MANY people think that thin people don’t have high cholesterol. Apparently the public’s perception is wrong.
Many people think only obese or overweight people can get cholesterol. However, the facts on the ground reveal that even people who are not fat can have high cholesterol. This is explained by a medical expert, Professor Zubairi Djoerban.
Prof. Beri Zubairi found that the patient was 50 years old, not obese, but had high cholesterol.
“A patient is 50 years old, not fat, likes to eat fresh vegetables and doesn’t eat meat too often. However, the results of his medical check-up showed that he had high cholesterol. The patient was surprised,” he said.
He also explained that high cholesterol can indeed be experienced by everyone, including thin or not fat people. How come?
According to Prof. Zubairi, the source of cholesterol in the blood mostly comes from the formation of cholesterol by the liver and the rest comes from the food eaten.
“So, it doesn’t mean that fat people have high cholesterol, and vice versa if thin people don’t have high cholesterol,” he explained.
What about those who are already on a good diet but still have high cholesterol?
Prof. Zubairi explained, his diet needs to be reviewed again. “There may be other food sources high in fat and cholesterol that are still widely consumed.”
