Thijs sentenced for online sexual misconduct and infidelity – appeal filed

Last August, Thijs was sentenced by the court in Assen to a prison sentence of three months, of which two months were conditional. The court also imposes a maximum community service sentence of 240 hours on him. Furthermore, Thijs must be treated at a mental health institution. The court considers it proven that the actor is guilty of criminally unacceptable sexual behavior. He seduced the girls online to commit lewd acts on themselves and send nude photos. This happened between November 2015 and November 2017, when the girls were 14, 15 and 16 years old.

Immediately after the ruling, both Thijs and the Public Prosecution Service will appeal. “The appeal filed by the Public Prosecution Service relates specifically to the acquittal for count 2 – the unexpected sending of a nude photo – and not to the punishment imposed by the court,” a spokesperson for the Public Prosecution Service said at the time.

Thijs also speaks out afterwards: “I cannot and do not want to justify what happened. I made mistakes in online contact at the time. I fully realize that. I think it is terrible that they suffered as a result and I am very sorry for that. very bad. The appeal is not intended to detract from that suffering. I would have liked to accept the judge’s ruling, but for that I do not recognize enough of the image that emerges from the verdict.”

During the trial, new information also emerged for his then partner Igone de Jongh. “That was very difficult. I went into survival mode,” the dancer said in a recent interview &C. “The information that came to me was also about infidelity. But after hearing these facts, I felt my body shut down,” she says. “At first you think for a long time: oh Jesus no, it won’t happen, will it? Unfortunately, it all turned out to be true.”

Igone indicates that she ‘really’ thought she was getting old. “So this was a huge slap in the face.” If it had only been about cheating, she might still have been able to forgive her ex. “But as far as the lawsuit and what happened there, that crossed my line. That’s so far removed from me.”
