Bonn – Two 23 and 24-year-old men are said to have threatened a 27-year-old with broken glass bottles on Wednesday night (May 31, 2023) after they had stolen from him using the so-called “Antanztrick”. The crime happened around 1:30 a.m. on the corner of Bonngasse and Bertha-von-Suttner-Platz. After the men had spoken to the 27-year-old, they took turns coming close to him. One of the two reached into his back pocket from behind, pulled out his wallet and took out 50 euros and a debit card. When the victim demanded the return of the loot, both suspects initially threatened him with broken glass bottles and then ran away shortly afterwards.
Several people pursued the suspects, who were apprehended a little later by a patrol team from the Bonn City Guard in Fürstenstrasse as part of an immediate local search. The men known to the police were temporarily arrested and taken to police headquarters. The investigations of the Criminal Police Office 13 against you are still ongoing.
Police warn: hugging or dancing are popular tricks used by thieves who specialize in stealing from people in crowds. They should be particularly attentive when they are being danced to exuberantly by several strangers.
This is how you can protect yourself: Be alert and become suspicious of unwanted physical contact. Check immediately if your valuables are still there. Wear them close to your body and close pockets and pouches. Contact the police immediately by dialing 110 if you have been robbed.
