The Thierry Malandain Dance Foundation housed at the Academy of Fine Arts was officially created on Tuesday February 6, 2024. This foundation, chaired by Laurent Petitgirard, permanent secretary of the Academy of Fine Arts and created on the initiative by Thierry Malandain, first elected member of the choreography section of the Academy, has given itself the particular mission of supporting the emergence of new choreographers and the dissemination of their works, of supporting professional dancers at two strategic moments of their journey – training and retraining –, as well as encouraging research into choreographic art and its history. The Foundation will also be able to support mediation and awareness-raising actions through dance among various audiences.
To accomplish its missions, the Foundation can receive donations from individuals (income tax and real estate wealth tax) or businesses (corporate tax) as well as legacies. The Foundation will thus be able to grant prizes, scholarships or residencies to choreographers, dancers and researchers whose work focuses on choreography and dance, and establish partnerships with public institutions and private establishments dedicated to dancing or performing.
Chaired by Laurent Petitgirard, the Foundation’s board of directors brings together Jacques-Emmanuel Saulnier, communications director of TotalEnergies and several academicians: the choreographer Thierry Malandain, the composer Régis Campo, the engraver and painter Astrid de la Forest, as well as Didier Deschamps, correspondent of the choreography section and Yves Kordian, deputy director of the CCN Malandain Ballet Biarritz, member of the office of the Association of National Choreographic Centers.
