Thierry Chevenet defends himself on video

It is in a video posted on his Facebook and Linkedin profiles that Thierry Chevenet, director of the company implicated in the L214 video accusing him of animal abuse, has chosen to react. Without directly mentioning the facts reported by the association, he defends his profession, his studies and his staff.

After Carrefour and Monoprix, three new supermarket chains communicated this Thursday to the L214 association that they would stop selling the products of the Chevenet dairy. This company in the Mâconnaise region is the subject of an investigation by the association which denounces, with supporting images, the conditions of the goat farms that supply the milk for the production of cheeses.

Auchan’s reaction:

“We would like to inform you that, in agreement with our supplier Chevenet, we have decided to suspend the sale of his dairy products when we learned that he had been accused of practices contrary to our animal welfare policy. “

The reaction of the U system:

“After studying the elements of the Chevenet company, we have chosen to withdraw the references of this supplier from the market and to temporarily increase supplies pending further elements. “

Grand Frais’ reaction:

“We strongly condemn the practices exposed in this video which are diametrically opposed to our values. Following the various exchanges with the supplier, we have decided to suspend the supply of its products. We will take the time to carry out all necessary investigations. “

The company denounces the modus operandi of the association

In a statement, Bérénice Riaux, spokesperson for the L214 association, believes that “this rapid commitment by distributors is an excellent indicator of the growing importance of animal welfare in the regulations of agri-food companies. It is also an important signal sent to producers: the conditions under which animals are reared, transported and slaughtered are now at the center of the attention of large-scale retailers ”.

Questioned by the Journal de Saône-et-Loire, the Chevenet dairy responded with a statement to the accusations made against it. He attributes the high mortality of children, as the survey shows, to the particular weather conditions this summer: “Despite all our efforts, acute heatwaves can be as fatal for animals as they are for humans.” For his part, he denounces “the modus operandi of L214, known for its practices of intrusion and then manipulation of the images obtained through montages and a staging that does not reflect reality. Today we are in solidarity with our 50 employees and their families and friends who are shocked by these images and the idea they give of their work ”.
