For Austria Tennis star Dominic Thiem the Virtual Madrid Open adventure ended before it really started. The Third in the world rankings was withdrawn from the competition just like the Russian Karen Khachanov. The reason for this are technical problems with the Internet connectionas the organizers announced on Tuesday.
150,000 euros
The Madrid Open could not take place this year due to the Corona crisis, which is why the organizers came up with a creative alternative. The tennis professionals should therefore take part in a virtual tournament on the PlayStation 4 compete against each other. There is a women’s and a men’s competition. Both are playing for prize money of 150,000 euros.
Thiem was happy
Thiem has been looking forward to the tournament and can also have some experience with the PlayStation show. Particularly exciting in the virtual tournament: Those who have mastered the real world ranking do not necessarily have to be among the best virtually.
