Dominic Thiem will meet either the Serb Filip Krajinovic or a qualifier in the second round of the Masters 1000 tennis tournament, which has been relocated from Cincinnati to New York, at his restart on the ATP tour.

In the first round, the world number three behind Novak Djokovic has a bye.

Thiem has never played against 28-year-old Krajinovic, who competes in doubles with Djokovic. To make it to the quarter-finals, Thiem could meet the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, the semi-finalist of the US Open 2019. The second Grand Slam tournament of the year follows the week after the Western & Southern Open ($ 7.151 million worth of money) also in Flushing Meadows.
