A video captured the shocking moment a suspected thief hit a pedestrian with the stolen car while driving in the Bronx, New York City Police said. The suspect ended up crashing into a utility pole before fleeing Friday morning.
According to information from the authorities, the incident occurred on Friday, around 8:15 am, when the suspect stole a large vehicle that was parked in front of a lumber yard at 4527 White Plains.
Minutes later, the suspected robber struck a 49-year-old man who was standing behind his parked truck on White Plains Road. The impact left the victim with severe bodily trauma, lacerations and broken bones. She was transported by paramedics to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobywhere it is in critical but stable condition.
Officers found the stolen car abandoned hours later, around 5:00 p.m., after crashing into a utility pole near East 235th Street y White Plains Road.
New York City Police said they were looking for a man in his 50s or 60s with a bald head who was captured on surveillance footage.
The investigation is ongoing.
