If he missed his match last Saturday, against Newcastle (4-1), and he is perhaps not as athletic as at the time, Thiago Silva nonetheless remains a unique defender who pushes the limits year after year. At 39 years and 64 days, the Brazilian recently became the oldest player in Chelsea’s history to set foot on a pitch at St James’ Park. Well settled in south London with his wife and children, the former Parisian would probably not have imagined such a love affair with the London club. So much so that he would like his sons to take up the torch!
“I have to say that in every club I have been to I have felt a lot of love from the clubs themselves and the fans, but here it is a little different, because of the fact that my children play on the team too”, he says in an interview published on the official Chelsea website. “For me it would be a dream to see them play professionally at Chelsea. Ultimately, I love watching them and I try to help them as much as I can. I love watching my kids play here, my wife is here all the time and even wants to be at all the away games. I think she realizes that time is running out a bit, so she wants to make the most of these last few years of my career.”
