Thiago Carpini’s Transition from Player to Coach: A Career Evolution in Brazilian Soccer

In 2017, then defender/midfielder Carpini ended his career as a professional athlete when he was at Caldense. The team from Poços de Caldas, that year, had attacking midfielder Wellington Rato as one of its highlights.

Together, Thiago Carpini and Wellington Rato played in the Campeonato Mineiro and Série D of the 2017 Brazilian Championship for Veterana.

While the former defender played 12 games between the state and national championships, the current SP midfielder played in 15 matches. Wellington Rato scored four goals with the Veterana shirt. Carpini, on the other hand, didn’t find the net once.

The player leaves, the coach enters

Having played for teams such as Atlético-MG, Bahia, Ponte Preta and Guarani, Thiago Carpini ended his career as a professional athlete while at Caldense.

He was one of the pillars of the 2017 Veterana. However, he left the club in the middle of the Series D dispute, ending his cycle as a player.

A year after hanging up his boots, Carpini began his journey as a coach. He started as an assistant at XV de Piracicaba and got his first chance as a coach at Guarani, in 2019.

After that, he passed through Oeste (2020), Inter de Limeira (2021), Santo André (2022), Ferroviária (2022) and Água Santa (2022 and 2023). He was currently at Juventude, where he competed in the 2023 Series B and won a place in this year’s national elite.
