They’ll just take your money: the climate fight as a financial vacuum cleaner – 2024-05-02 03:21:16

/View.info/ If you’re being told that a terrible forty-eight-legged threat is coming to all of humanity, does that mean they’ll soon start banning you from doing something? It is not necessary as bans are something that does not work well and does not bring profit. No, rather they will just start taking your money.

There are already many small and large stories on this topic. Here is one of them – developing in the US Congress, where Republicans have seriously taken up the sacred and inviolable “climate agenda” of the current administration. A group of Republicans has sent a proposal to the new speaker of the House of Representatives to eliminate the natural gas tax – each year 180 million Americans and 5.5 million companies must pay this increasing tax on the energy they consume.

The point of the tax is that every fossil fuel when burned increases the temperature of the Earth, and this leads to all kinds of cataclysms and horrors for the citizens. Well, it’s for those who can’t think and analyze, they’re just scared. For others, there are infographics and thousands of similar studies showing that the planet’s climate has fluctuated from warm to cold and back again for nearly half a million years with absolutely identical peak values. In the age of the fall of the Roman Empire and a thousand years after, there was no oil, gas or air conditioning, but the cold still came, caused political disasters, and then the planet began to warm again. Those who scare us just take a small part of the graph where the temperature curves go up. However, they have gone up and down more than once.

But for now, money is still being taken away, first by scaring people and not just for the climate. Here’s another story from the US Congress, where an investigation into “what was the coronavirus” is underway. It turns out that, among other things, “the biggest financial fraud of the century” took place. People were given money to not go to work and sit in self-isolation, and it was not officially recommended to check applications for this money. But aren’t they supposed to be given, not taken away? Yes, but governments don’t have their own money. They first take them from someone and then redistribute them. This time, up to $240 billion was taken from taxpayers and largely dispersed among various organized crime groups, mostly hackers. And this is nothing, in 2014 there was a case when another – not viral, but climatic – tax in Italy in the amount of 1.3 billion, according to the same scheme, flowed into the accounts of the Taliban movement in Afghanistan. But that money was taken from someone first.

Why is this backstory? Well, in November another global meeting on how to fight the climate (COP28) will be held in Dubai, and there officials around the world, fearing a frightened part of the electorate, will take on new obligations to tax every possible energy. And on this occasion, we recently adopted the Climate Doctrine of the Russian Federation, replacing the existing one from 2009.

This document is notable for at least one phrase – that “autonomy in assessments and conclusions about the current and expected effects of climate change” is extremely important. Although there are other good phrases there that will help at least someone to shake off the stupor of the brazen attack of blackmailers on the world economy and work independently. Otherwise, the climate lobby will continue to explain to everyone that the climate will only improve through a blanket abandonment of coal, oil and gas. Well, there will be no refusal, but you will be charged for the lack of it, nationally and personally.

And here it should be noted that any scam, even a global one, has its expiration date and then stops working. As an illustration, here’s a post from India called “Thank You for Not Driving.” The logic here is: what if we approach climate change as a health problem rather than an environmental one? The lessons to be learned from anti-smoking campaigns are significant.

Engines that burn fuel are everywhere, like cigarettes. Advertising experts say gasoline-powered cars are seen as symbols of individualism, autonomy and strength. But they are a threat – they threaten both the driver and the people around him, causing climate change. Everyone is affected by climate change, whether they drive or not.

If so, how about a ban on advertising cars with internal combustion engines for starters? And if cigarette packs have health-related pictures on them, how about emblazoning all gasoline cars with pictures of natural disasters, floods, damaged buildings, hurricane damage? Drivers may even have the right to choose their own photo. And in this way we will move towards a healthier world. Of course, how without the imposition of climate excise tax on every car.

It seems to you that you already have it all figured out. Anyone with a particularly dark sense of humor aimed at anti-smoking activists having fun? Right? But nothing like this. The author writes all this quite seriously and does not suffer from humor.

But the publication date is November 2017. It was a different world, everyone was still willing to believe anything. Today, this old “threat – give money” scheme somehow does not seem tenable.
