In the health department’s offices, this Thursday afternoon a work meeting was held to explore new incentive strategies for the retention of specialists in the short term.
The event was attended by the president of the Senate Health Commission, Juan Luis Castro; the president of the Regional Medical College, Dr. Sonia Correa, the director (s) of the O’Higgins Health Service, César Sierpe and the director (s) of the Regional Hospital, Adolfo Beck.
In the instance, the president of the Health Commission, Senator Juan Luis Castro, said that the call arose “from the need to provide new solutions for a long and dragging crisis, which is not only the Rancagua Regional Hospital; but of the waiting lists throughout Chile. In the case of this region it has to do with the fact that the incentives to have critical specialties, such as ENT, dermatology, anesthesia, or traumatology, are not sufficiently well placed and, therefore, there is a structural disincentive to work in the O’Higgins Health Service. In addition, there is a management problem regarding the operation of the pavilions, where bureaucracy must be avoided.”
WILL WORK ON SPECIALTIES IN FAILURE AND IMPROVEMENT OF ASSIGNMENT
The parliamentarian explained that a working table was established between the Medical College and the management of the Regional Hospital that “bilaterally will focus and identify which specialties are lacking, how the allocation of stimulus for these specialties is improved, and how purchases of services are well focused and associated with production goals.”
Meanwhile, the president of the regional Colmed, Dr. Sonia Correa, explained “we had a reception, which allowed us to install work tables that, although it is true that they had been operating before, we want this to continue, that new strategies be given, that a look at solving the problem that is urgent now, such as the lack of dermatology and otorhinolaryngology. But also a long-term strategy that allows for the development of the medical specialty in the region,” she pointed out.
For his part, the director(s) of the O’Higgins Health Service, César Sierpe, valued the dialogue as a way to bring positions closer together, expressing “the meeting was extremely positive, without a doubt it was a meeting of dialogue and agreements, and the first agreements are to explore in a concrete way and in the short term the matter of incentives for the retention of professionals who are currently lacking, that was the general agreement. As specific agreements, we are going to work on several lines: the first thing is to strengthen the work table to be able to materialize this agreement, secondly explore the incentives locally with some financial studies to see how much the possibility of our advances would be and we also explore the “work to purchase services to improve the conditions of specialists at the Rancagua Hospital”
The director(s) of the service department concluded by saying “we are on the best of paths working to solve short-term problems and we will have a good outcome in the coming months,” he emphasized.
Finally, the director(s) of the Regional Hospital, Adolfo Beck, stated “we are looking at the best strategies to be able to provide solutions to our patients, in this sense we have created this long-term work table to see how to improve the retention of our specialists. and how to integrate new specialists into the region,” he concluded.
THE BEGINNING OF THE CRISIS
Let us remember that, earlier this week, in the pages of El Rancagüino, the president of the O’Higgins Medical College, Sonia Correa, warned of the critical situation that the Rancagua Regional Hospital is going through, highlighting the urgent need to implement measures to confront the shortage of specialists and the lack of supplies within the healthcare facility
Since last year, Colmed Regional warned of the precarious situation of stimulus allocations comparable with regions such as Maule and Metropolitana and the need for adequate conditions for professional development, making an urgent call to the authorities to commit to specific dates, improving conditions of work.
The unions inside the hospital -ASIAP, Fenats Nacional, Fenats Base and ASENF, supported the doctors’ statements and demanded that the authorities take immediate measures.
This support was joined by parliamentarians Javier Macaya, Juan Luis Castro, Marcela Riquelme and Diego Schalper, who raised their voices demanding immediate measures due to the lack of management and incentives, highlighting the large waiting lists and calling for a change of direction in the hospital management.
In response to these concerns, Regional Governor Pablo Silva announced financial efforts for projects aimed at reducing waiting lists; However, he expects a proposal from the O’Higgins Health Service highlighting the need for a commitment from the Health Directorate and the Undersecretary of Assistance Networks.
In this context, this Thursday afternoon, this tripartite meeting was held that involved the O’Higgins Health Service, the Medical College and the management of the Regional Hospital, to bring positions together with the mediation of the president of the Health Commission of the Senate, Juan Luis Castro.
