The Salvadoran archers Sofía a Paiz, Paola Corado and Camila Alvarenga, in the compound category, who belong to the Effort and Glory Program, won the silver medal after falling 228-234 against the Americans Alexis Ruiz, Carson Krahe and Olivia Dean, in the Championship Pan American Medellín 2024.
Along the way, the national team showed determination and passion by leaving behind in the semifinals with a score of 230-229 the Mexican team made up of Dafne Quintero, Andrea Becerra and Esmeralda Sánchez, known for being a power in the modality.
For Paola Corado, the result achieved is the reward for the effort, in the last four years in which they have competed together.
“For the three of us, this is the result for which we have given everything in all these years. It is a historic result for the country and for us, we prepared very well before the competition, we were in Arizona and in the South American competition in Brazil, that gave its results,” said Corado.
For the Pan American medalist, winning the silver was something relevant, but she assured that there is little left to be at the top of the Pan American podium.
“The main objective of being on the podium was met, since last year we were left out of that phase of the event. What we needed for the gold medal was experience and a little mental work, since being on the shooting range in a final is different than shooting on the normal range, the opponent was strong and we need little to that first place,” Paola explained.
Meanwhile, the men’s team made up of Roberto Hernández, Miguel Véliz and Douglas Nolasco, also from the Effort and Glory Program, competed closely for the bronze medal, which they lost in a tiebreaker against Colombia.
To reach that stage, Salvadorans and Colombians equaled 235 points and the bronze winner was defined in one more throw that closed 29-29, but the last arrow of the coffee growers fell closer to the center.
For his part, in the individual compound bow, Douglas Nolasco, an athlete from the Effort and Glory Program, took fourth place in the event by losing 146-148 to Colombian Pablo Gómez Zuluaga in the bronze medal match.
