“They will soon suffocate”. What are they preparing for at the front in Ukraine – 2024-04-08 07:18:15

/ world today news/ Fields and dirt roads became impassable for large armored maneuvers due to bad weather. The Ukrainian Armed Forces no longer make serious attempts to break through the front, limiting themselves to local attacks. The Russian army, on the contrary, is seizing the initiative in several sectors. About the situation in the SVO area – in the material.

The magical elements

The snowstorm that engulfed Ukraine on Monday evening brought adjustments to the course of hostilities. Roads were covered in snow, 400 settlements in the Kiev-controlled territory of Donbass remained without electricity, and in some areas railway traffic stopped. Bad weather complicates the delivery of ammunition and reinforcements, low cloud cover and heavy rainfall make it difficult to use drones. On the Russian side, the picture is similar.

Crimea was particularly affected by the disaster, where half a million people were left without electricity. Fortunately, the Ukrainian Armed Forces did not take advantage of the situation and did not try to send saboteurs to Crimea. The unprecedented storm was not conducive to such raids.

Around Kherson, the Ukrainian bridgehead at Krynky was completely cut off from the right bank, and the soldiers stationed there could not claim artillery support.

Russian troops delivered several effective strikes and regained some positions. However, the bridgehead remains.

To the east, around Zaporozhye, the VSU still tried to break through the defenses at Verbovoye and Rabotino, but fell into counterattacks and retreated with losses. Kiev failed to reach Tokmak and then Berdyansk and Melitopol to cut the land bridge to Crimea.

Positional battles

There are no significant changes around Yuzhnodonetsk. At the end of the summer, the Ukrainian Armed Forces still cut the Vremevskaya ledge on the border of the Zaporozhye region and the DPR, occupying several villages that were completely destroyed. They tried to level the front along Uledar, but got stuck in the triangle Novodonetskoe-Novomayorskoe-Kremenchik. Russian troops attack northwest of Staromayorskoye. As a result, the battles took on a positional character.

There is an offensive in the Donetsk direction, accompanied by constant artillery and airstrikes. Thus, according to the Ministry of Defense, a valuable Ukrainian radio electronic warfare station “Bukovel-AD” was destroyed in the Krasnogorovka region. Things are now simpler for Russian drone operators.

Fighting continues near Artyomovsk along the Klescheevka-Kurdyumovka-Andreevka line. Kiev still controls part of the heights around these settlements, which allows the closest routes to be kept under fire control. Russian units have strengthened in Klescheevka, but the situation here has hardly changed for many weeks.

Around Lugansk, ongoing fighting continues in the Serebryan forest region. In the Kupyansk region, Russian troops slightly advanced in the Sinkovka region. They use the tactics of active defense – take positions during counterattacks. And they capture foothold after foothold.

Winter prospects

In general, Ukraine lost the initiative – this is also recognized in Kiev. Ukrainian armed forces go on the defensive in anticipation of the winter offensive of Russian troops. Ukrainian intelligence released a report claiming the attack would be covered by hundreds of missile strikes on energy infrastructure facilities.

Therefore, Kiev is hastily trying to create analogues of the “Surovikin line”. However, the Ukrainians themselves are not sure that they will help. The American channel “ABC News” quotes Lieutenant General Sergey Naev, who believes that the conflict may spread beyond the eastern and southern parts of the country. He pointed out that Russia continues to increase the production of weapons and develop military technology.

“The Ukrainian army is like an iceberg that floats and melts. Now it has reached a critical point when the superiority of the Russian armed forces is completely obvious. Reserves have appeared that can be used. The Ukrainian general perfectly understands that by the end of the year the ratio will change, that’s why he draws reasonable conclusions”, commented the political scientist Alexey Podberezkin.

The West is also drawing conclusions. The European and American media are increasingly writing about the shortcomings of the Armed Forces, about the problems faced by the military at the front and in the rear. They note the low level of training of the mobilized – at best they are trained for two weeks. Their average age is 40-50 years. There is an acute shortage of junior command staff.

All this, combined with the low morale after the failed offensive, puts Kiev in a rather difficult position. Especially if you remember that the Russian potential is many times greater than the Ukrainian one.
