They will require an electronic visa for travelers who visit Cuba starting May 6 – 2024-05-04 09:49:34

The Cuban Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) recently announced that all travelers who wish to enter the Island starting next May 6 must respect a new electronic visa system.

The head of Mintur, Juan Carlos García Granda, confirmed this information during the opening of the International Tourism Fair (FITCuba), which took place in Jardines del Rey, Ciego de Ávila.

According to the official, the new requirement to enter the Greater Antilles will replace the current tourist card, so it is expected that the bureaucratic process will be simplified.

This new system will be administered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba (Minrex) together with Immigration and Foreigners, as well as a department belonging to the Ministry of the Interior (Minint).

García Granda points out that the implementation of this new system will be carried out little by little, giving priority to the main markets that send tourists to the Island.

Those citizens who wish to travel to the Island must provide their full name, personal telephone number, email address, passport number, among other personal information.

After completing the process, the computer system will send a notification to users to inform them about the corresponding visa and payment for the consular service, if necessary.

The state press indicates that the measure begins on May 6 and ends on June 30.

It is important to remember that the Island requires a tourist visa for foreigners who wish to visit the Island, although this document is usually included in the packages sold by travel agencies. This visa costs 25 dollars (USD) and works only for a single entry.

The visa is required by immigration officials who receive the tourist at the entry points to Cuba, and the document shows the date of entry and exit, so it is advisable to keep it until the visitor leaves the country.

Everything indicates that the authorities are seeking to eliminate cumbersome processes to enter the country, in the hope that more tourists decide to visit the Greater Antilles. However, only time will tell how effective the measure will be, as the numbers of foreign visitors have plummeted in recent years, regardless of the Cuban government’s efforts to prevent it.
