The president of the Association of Mayors of Puerto Rico and chief executive of San Lorenzo, José ‘Joe’ Román Abreu He reported that after a series of medical tests, it has been confirmed that he has a cancerous tumor near the pancreas.
As reported, the condition of the municipal executive was identified in time, so tomorrow, Thursday, he will be operated under the care of Dr. Pedro Hernández Rivera of Hospital Auxilio, with the purpose of removing said tumor and continuing the corresponding treatment.
“Last Monday I felt discomfort and went to the Mennonite Hospital in Caguas, where doctors García and Martínez treated me exceptionally. My thanks to them, as well as to the staff of that medical institution. Later I was referred to Mutual Aid, where Dr. Hernández made some recommendations that we have accepted with confidence and enthusiasm, ”explained Román Abreu. For his part, Dr. Hernández reported that after the surgical process, normal hospitalization is required in these cases. The time of said hospitalization will be defined after tomorrow’s intervention.
In relation to the Municipality of San Lorenzo, work continues as usual, under the direction of the municipal secretary Lynette Feliciano, who has served as interim mayor since last Monday. As for the presidency of the Association of Mayors, the first vice president, Luis Javier Hernández, mayor of Villalba and the second vice president, Nelson Torres Yordán, mayor of Guayanilla, will jointly direct the work on an interim basis, together with the executive director of the entity, José A. Rivera.
Finally, Román Abreu appointed his brother Hill Román Abreu the responsibility of timely informing the people of the details of his condition. “Like all decisions in my life, this situation is placed in the hands of God and I appreciate the signs of affection of my dear people,” concluded the mayor.
