Mexico City. The census of victims of Hurricane John in Acapulco will begin in two days, once the rain stops and there is a broader view of the damage, reported President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
The Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reported that 95 percent of the electricity service has already been restored on the Guerrero coast that was affected by the meteor.
In a report during the conference at the National Palace, the head of the Executive confirmed the death of five people, four of them in two towns and one in Acapulco.
He explained that the census of people with damage to their homes was going to begin yesterday, but security, civil protection and state government officials asked him to wait a few days since it has not stopped raining.
In any case, he indicated, the Secretary of Welfare, Ariadna Montiel, is already in Guerrero, preparing the brigades. In a preliminary report, 700 homes are known to have been damaged.
The head of the Secretariat of Comprehensive Risk Management and Civil Protection of Guerrero, Roberto Arroyo Matus, warned that there is a critical situation in the state of Guerrero due to the “quite intense” rains that have been recorded in the last few hours due to the Hurricane John.
He pointed out that state Civil Protection brigades and other agencies and the armed forces have participated in rescues in housing sites in the Diamante area, adjacent to the Tres Palos lagoon, such as the Las Gaviotas subdivision, for which Zodiac-type boats from the Mexican Navy; in addition to the Cayaco and a gas station on the Boulevard of Nations, where there are 100 people trapped.
Due to the floods, Arroyo Matus stressed, there may still be landslides.
He stated that “we have a quite critical situation because we have a large amount of rainfall, a large volume of water,” and called on the population to stay at home, as poles and trees may collapse.
He noted that “it is a phenomenon that has generated significant rainfall along the coast.”
He specified that there are 626 temporary shelters enabled in the entity. As of Thursday morning, there are 50 people in these shelters in Acapulco, 12 in Copala, 25 in Igualapa, 45 in Las Vigas and 115 in Coyuca de Benítez.
