Mr. and Mrs. Kuśmierczyk from Wola Gardzienicka (Lublin Voivodeship) installed photovoltaics in August 2022, using the municipal subsidy program. — Calculations showed that almost 100% of the electricity produced in our installation was will meet our annual energy needs. In a word, we counted on low bills – describes Mrs. Magdalena, quoted by DziennikWschodni.pl.
However, it quickly turned out that the matter was not that simple, because the woman noticed voltage spikes in the installation. Although the official inspection carried out in September 2022 did not reveal any deviations from the norm, the couple decided to conduct another one with the participation of an independent electrician. – He stated that my installation had not been working properly since the day it was launched – says the service interlocutor.
The specialist estimated that the old network in the Piaski commune, which was unable to handle such high voltage, was responsible for everything. — We asked PGE when they would replace the electric traction. We have not received an answer, a local official emphasized in a conversation with journalists.
They pay three times more for electricity
In 2021, the Kuśmierczyks paid an average of PLN 375 per month for electricity. The first invoice for five months of photovoltaic operation amounted to approximately PLN 3,500, which is PLN 700 per month. For the period from January 1 to June 30, 2023, the couple received a settlement for almost PLN 9,430, which is almost PLN 1,600 per month.
After correcting the invoices, the couple paid PLN 12,141.89 for 11 months, approximately three times more than they would have paid for this period before installing the photovoltaic panels.
Magdalena Kuśmierczyk also discovered that she was billed in an unfavorable net-billing system, which involved selling electricity to the grid without taking into account transmission fees. In the case of electricity purchased later, fees are already charged, so this solution is not beneficial for individual consumers.
Only after five months was it possible to change the system to the so-called net metering, in which for every 1 kW introduced into the network, 0.8 kW or 0.7 kW can be received. “As a result of the complaint, corrective invoices were issued on August 10, 2023,” the PGE Obrót Press Office in Rzeszów described in a letter sent to dziennikWschodni.pl.
Huge electricity consumption on invoices. “Nothing’s right”
However, the Kuśmierczyks claim that this is not the end of their problems, because the problem is also the high electricity consumption charged by the company. – Nothing’s right. Such high consumption as indicated on PGE’s invoices is simply impossible. Overpriced several times! – emphasizes Mrs. Magdalena.
– We use electricity to heat our house occasionally, using infrared panels. The main source of heat in my house is a coal and wood stove connected to a radiator system and a fireplace with an air distribution system. Apart from that, we run an ordinary house, he adds.
PGE notes that in the event of errors in measurement or reading of the measurement and billing system, billing corrections are possible. However, the company sees no grounds for this. Although officials are trying to help the couple, so far they have not been able to discover the reason for the high electricity bills.
