“They think we came to enslave ourselves” – 2024-04-30 20:10:40

A Cuban who works as a Walmart delivery driver in the United States has caused controversy on social networks, by refusing to do his full job, arguing that they are trying to “enslave” him.

Through his TikTok account, the user, identified as Jorge Drake, indicated that he was not willing to climb three floors of stairs in a building to complete the delivery for the client who requested his services.

In the video, the man appears dissatisfied with the financial remuneration he was going to receive, which, according to him, “is not worth” the effort of carrying all the merchandise.

The same recording shows the total number of boxes full of water bottles, gallons of other liquids and bags with food, all in his car and that he had to go up to the third floor for a client who would only pay him 15 dollars for the work.

The man, originally from Havana, advised his colleagues to always check before accepting the job when collecting an order, since the payment does not always justify the effort.

“Five cases of water, a stack of water knobs, look at this. The cart was full for a single order of 15 pesos. When I arrived at the place, a third floor,” he explained frustrated.

Anticipating the criticism, he explained the steps he would have to climb with all the load, which is why he preferred to return the merchandise to the store, and indicated that he would ignore the insults.

“Here I am, I turned back to the Walmart, and call me ‘lazy’ and everything you want, which is for pleasure,” he stressed.

According to Jorge, other delivery drivers had already rejected the trip, and he only took it because he didn’t take a good look at what he would have to carry nor did he know that there were stairs involved.

“Now I’m going to cancel it and turn back. Water, do you see my aqueduct face? These people believe that we came to enslave ourselves here,” she added, ending with an obscene signal.

The publication caused controversy among users of the social network, and while some pointed out that delivering this is his job and that the amount is much more than what he would earn in Cuba for a similar work, others agreed with him and indicated that not because Giving a tip can require them to do that physical labor.

“I wish they were that dignified in Cuba, they would have already removed the government they have”; “What if they were old people?”; “That’s right, they pay for a service, but they want everything that way, that they come down for their things if they are so urgent,” were some of the comments.

This is not the first time that a Cuban delivery person in the US refuses to take an order to upper floors without an elevator. Last August, an Amazon employee did not want to take a package up to the third floor, claiming that it was too heavy and too hot.

“If they feel like it, they come and look for it down here,” he was heard saying in front of the camera while he complained about the heat and the weight of the package.
