Luka Doncic has a plethoric 2022 on the individual and collective level. The Slovenian star has also made quite a few headlines for his face-to-face clashes with stars like LeBron James, Stephen Curry o Klay Thompson. The 23-year-old has spoken on the subject of one-on-one matchups on the podcast of his former teammate and former NBA player JJ Redick, who shared a locker room with him on the Dallas Mavericks.
“The best players have to work on both sides of the pitch, you have to make them work,” Doncic commented on his approach when playing one on one against the great stars of the competition.
“They come for me, but maybe it’s not because I’m a good player,” Doncic continues jokingly. “They think I can’t defend”. The Slovenian star’s defensive game seems to have taken a step forward this season, and it is the first time that the subject has been discussed on broadcasts and in analyzes by leading experts on the subject.
“They play the whole game, they have a lot of the ball. You want to make them work, make them tired, work on both sides,” says Doncic about his philosophy. “When you have the best player in front of you, you want to score yes or yes. It’s a moment to be proud of,” ditch the Slovenian and former Real Madrid.
Doncic’s statements are a preview of the podcast, The Old Man & The Three, recorded in a hotel room during one of the Mavs’ final road games.
