The Ministry of Health announced that this May 24 the vaccination points against COVID-19 will not be enabled at the national level due to the fact that they will carry out a vaccination count for delivery to the new authorities designated by the incoming president Guillermo Lasso.

The Ecuadorian Social Security Institute (IESS) had reported hours before that affiliates and beneficiaries over 65 years old do not go to their vaccination points between Monday 24 and Tuesday 25 May due to the new vaccination count process.

“Authorities of the Ministry of Public Health will share with the new representatives of this State Portfolio the total of the vaccine doses that will be available in stock to continue with the execution of the vaccination process at the national level,” the Ministry said in a statement.

The date on which the process will be reactivated has not yet been announced. The new president announced that this entity will be chaired by Ximena Garzón and that they hope to vaccinate 9 million Ecuadorians in 100 days.
